start the countdown…

Tonight is my last night in Connecticut.

That means, MOST IMPORTANTLY, no more commuting for 4+ hours, Monday through Friday (and sometimes Saturday and Sunday).

It also means:

a) I get to sleep until 8am every morning (and can stay up past midnight without freaking out)

b) I can start aimlessly wandering around the city

c) I have a place to live in the city (duh)

d) I have no excuse not to visit my family who already lives in the city

e) Adam will probably be seeing more of me

f) I can start crocheting and cooking (not at the same time) again

I’m almost looking forward to Monday because it’ll be the first day of my new commute :)

All of that aside, I mostly enjoyed myself with my Connecticut family. I actually wish I could’ve spent more time with them – sadly, I’m pretty sure I spent the majority of my time commuting. I’m forever grateful for them letting me live in their guest room (not completely rent-free, but really low rent) and eat their food for 4 months. It’s been real.

Now it’s time for me to get the hell out and (finally) get a life. Booya.

*** Side note: I’m hoping not to spend over $600 at IKEA tomorrow. I would really hate it if I did… but I actually have a lot to buy, so that could be hard. Dammit.

I’d rather not…

If there’s one thing I don’t have patience for, it’s clothes shopping. Ideally, when I go shopping for clothes, I go with an idea of what I want, and I stick with that plan. Today I went clothes shopping with my aunt and 13 year old cousin, and I needed shorts. What could’ve been a 20 minute visit to Kohls (it didn’t take long to find shorts), actually turned into a 1.5 hour visit because my cousin likes to shop. I wasn’t happy.

Anyways, after venting my shopping frustrations to my cousin, she told me that I needed to have more patience when shopping… Actually, the conversation went something like this:

Me: Ohmigosh, I really don’t like going shopping for clothes. It’s such a hassle. I’m so impatient.

Cousin: Why are you so impatient?! You can’t be that way! You’ll never find anything.

Me: When I go shopping, usually I’m looking for a certain thing – if I don’t find it almost immediately in a given store, I leave the store and search elsewhere.

Cousin: That’s stupid! You’re passing up so much here! You need some patience…

Me: Ugh. But I hate looking through clothes! I’m so picky… and poor. I want my clothes to be easy to find.

Cousin: You need to calm down, Deva. Patience. That’s what you need. And you need a new wardrobe. I’m calling What Not To Wear

I have a feeling that won’t be the only shopping trip I take with my cousin in the next couple of months. Anyways, my wardrobe can definitely use a mini-makeover. I will need to take my 13 year old cousin’s advice and grow some patience. Until I can hire someone to find the clothes I want, I’ll have to fight the crowds and search the stores on my own. Or I can just become rich and buy whatever I want.

busy bee

The past few days have been crazy busy… sorta. I was graced with the company of some of my closest friends for my graduation (and the week prior), so I haven’t been glued to my computer in my normal fashion.

The post-school fun kinda started on Wednesday when Adam and I went shopping for work clothes. He ended up buying much more than me – but actually has a job. Me – I’m still unemployed, so I only left with a shirt and chinos from Banana Republic and a skirt from New York and Company (to wear for graduation). After a long day of stimulating the economy, we got back to my apartment just in time for David Cook and David Archuleta’s Guitar Hero commercials…

I flipped out when I saw these commercials.

Thursday morning, after brief water problems (a pipe burst in my building so they shut off the water for a while), Adam and I headed for the District. The trip wasn’t really as adventerous as we’d hoped, but we made a pilgrimage to Vapiano’s for some not-so-fast food pasta. Anyone craving pasta for a low price (with free gummy bears for dessert) should head to that place. We hit up a few more stores, then returned to home base to begin Music Downloading Fest 2008.

We cashed in our change at Coinstar for amazon gift cards… which meant a night of reviewing and downloading music. One of our favorites was Little Jackie – “The World Should Revolve Around Me”. We fell victim to its catchy-ness, I guess. I grew attached to this one:

Oh Kate Nash…

So yeah, eventually Adam got the munchies (for lack of a better word), so we made an emergency trip to shoppers for some cornbread and lemon cake – Bake Fest 2008. Two hours later, we experienced great disappointment:

That wasn\'t planned

The cornbread turned out okay (yay for Jiffy!), but our lemon cake broke :( At least it was still fun to bake, I guess.

Friday was graduation. It was boring. I was happy some more of my friends got to come to the ceremony: Emily from band and Jessica, my “sister from another mother”, and her mom. Then my parents took even more of my friends (474-7 HOLLA) and I out for a ridiculous feast at Maggiano’s. I almost died every time they brought out another course… the amount of food we got was pure insanity. For dessert the waiter brought out a graduation cake (about 7″ high) for me with super cool candles. Even with 10 people eating, I have about 10 separate containers of leftovers…

On Saturday, Adam left me (sniffle) and Jessica and I had some time to hang out. This began DC Photo Fest 2008:

Her camera was much better than mine.

We hit up Zaytinya (of course) for an awesome lunch – with even more pictures…

After lunch, we roamed Georgetown, where Jessica started to get a little tired of walking. So, we visited the waterfront, took some more pictures, then finished up DC Photo Fest 2008.

I don’t have as many pictures from the rest of the day – but we hit up Beth’s (one of my roommates) graduation party, ate some Japanese for dinner, and finally threw in the towel.

Jessica and her mom left pretty early on Sunday morning, so here I am again – in front of my computer. Just like the good old days… minus the constant memo writing.

when I get bored

If you couldn’t already tell, one of my favorite pastimes is exploring DC (and taking random pictures). Today was no exception – I was in the middle of writing a paper, then felt the urge to go to U Street.

By the way, I was just there last night. And last Thursday.

But first, I had to get some coffee from

Actually I wanted to come here to see a couple of ex-Murky Capitol Hillers, Anne (A-bo) and Reggie (they migrated here for jobs after Murky’s big seizure). Luckily I found Reggie, but no Anne.

After downing my iced latte and super delicious oatmeal raisin cookie (costing me over $5) in under 5 minutes, I made my way to U Street to 3 of my favorite stores in DC:

Go Mama Go!

Home Rule, and

Pulp (my favorite of the 3).

I absolutely love this store. It has the best variety of cards I’ve ever seen. They also have a lot of quirky things…

Yeah.

Despite my urge to buy these lovely Mexican wrestler heads, I left with only 2 cards.

And that was the end of my homework break.
