march wrap up

31 March, 2009 Deva 3 comments

I’m still around.  Barely.  Weekends aren’t enough for me to rest my bones – I need a nice, long vacation to somewhere.

Anyway, here’s what I’m looking forward to in April:

1. April 30th – it’s the beginning of the end of the craziness that is my job (for the 2009 cycle).

2. April 18th – Adam is supposedly planning something for my birthday.

3. Possibly going to see 9 to 5 with Adam (don’t hate)

4. Doing my taxes. Maybe getting a W2 from Murky.

5. becoming a better tap dancer.

6. Reading great books.

7. Becoming a more competitive player in the challenge (I’ll explain later).

And here’s what I’m not looking forward to in April:

1. Ending my 24th year of life. Turning 25.

2. The potential hell that could be April 30th.

3. Many late nights at work starting April 13th.

4. April 18th if Adam gets strippers for my birthday.  If he doesn’t want to be in a hospital on April 19th, he won’t let that happen.

Dear everyone,

I’m currently reading The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Diaz. I want to finish this book TONIGHT (I’m on page 285 out of 335) because it’s so freaking awesome.

That said, I won’t be writing a real post today. Sorry.

On the flip side, everyone with a sense of humor and a love for fiction should definitely read this book. Again, it’s so freaking good.

I’ll be back tomorrow, of course.

Love, Deva

summer reading

I was walking through Georgetown (M Street) this afternoon after eating an excellent lunch at Harmony Cafe. Since I’m poor, I swore to myself that I would NOT buy anything while walking the streets… but I caved after I found this book:

The New Kings of Non-Fiction – edited by Ira Glass

I’m really excited about reading it, mostly because I like Ira Glass, Chuck Klosterman and Malcolm Gladwell (even though The Tipping Point got kinda boring after a few chapters).

At the moment, here’s my current summer/all the time reading list (based on books I already own):

1. The Best American Travel Writing – ed. Susan Orlean

2. Chuck Klosterman IV: A Decade of Curious People and Dangerous Ideas – Chuck Klosterman

3. The New Kings of Nonfiction – ed. Ira Glass

4. 100 Years of Solitude – Gabriel Garcia Marquez

5. Mirror Mirror – Gregory Maguire

+ all of the free books I’ll get from my summer seminar on poverty and prosperity in July.

Now that I’m a real adult, I’ll have time to read without school getting in the way. THANK GOD.
