old movies

I really love movies (and musicals) pre-1970.

I was just adding movies to my netflix queue when I noticed a crazy pattern.  After Role Models (I can’t help it – I love Jane Lynch), I have:

There’s already a pattern…

And oh man… if you could see a list of movies I’ve already seen – you’d find a lot more of Frank Sinatra, Doris Day, Judy Garland, Audrey Hepburn, and Cary Grant PLUS Gene Kelly.

I’m not gonna lie, though – the actresses are super awesome, but I really love Sinatra, Grant and Kelly.  I fall for their charm every time in every movie.

I put trailers for some of my favorites below…

Take Me Out To The Ball Game,1949

North by Northwest, 1959 (Thanks, Mr. Hitchcock)

Remember when Emily, Melissa and Linh came to visit me and we saw Guys and Dolls on Broadway?  Do you remember when I was raving about how way beyond awesome “Sit Down You’re Rockin’ the Boat” was?  Well, check out what I found:

See?  I told you it was incredible.

I’m willing to fight whoever disagrees…

I love Gene Kelly

I love musicals. I especially love musicals with Gene Kelly (and Frank Sinatra). And I really love musicals with tap dancing.

Tonight I watched It’s Always Fair Weather, about 3 army guys who fought in WWI together and met up 10 years later, only to find out they hated each other. Of course, by the end of the movie they were BFFs again (I think all musicals have a happy ending). And as usual, Gene had his super awesome tap dancing number; this time, it was on ROLLER SKATES. Holy crap.

And while I’m posting Gene Kelly videos, here are more of my favorites:

This is from On the Town – my #2 favorite Kelly/Sinatra musical

OH MY GOSH – I LOVE this song. From Take Me Out to the Ball Game. How adorable is Sinatra?

This is one of my favorites from my favorite musical, Singin’ In the Rain

Okay, okay… I need to stop myself.
