It was gorgeous outside earlier today. I mean, REALLY super nice outside. There was no way I would end up staying inside and working on homework all day (especially since I hate school), so I decided to check up on my favorite DC neighborhood, Eastern Market/Capitol Hill. More specifically, 7th Street SE. Even more specifically, the ex-Murky Coffee location.
666? I never knew that was the address (I thought it was 660). It was nice to see that the sign was still up. Although, I’m about 100% sure the store will never open again. Actually, I’m not sure why the sign is still up…
All the essentials are still inside: the La Marzocco, the urns, the grinders, and the fridge (and the ice machine?). I think I miss working in this little crap hole a little too much. Random memory: I remember when the AC was broken and it was 90+ degrees in there… AND we still had to make coffee. It was brutal.
Anyways,
It was nice walking up and down this block. I actually ran into an old Murky regular (large skim caramel latte without the caramel sauce on top/large Sencha tea) during today’s excursion. She gave me a big hug and said she was glad to hear that the ex-Cap Hill employees were hanging in there. People really miss us, I guess.
They’re still working on the historic Eastern Market building. It has definitely come a long way in a year. I’m excited about its re-opening, whenever that will be.
Okay, that was basically the extent of my voyage. Eastern Market is really pleasant when the weather is nice. It puts me in a good mood. Before leaving, I HAD to stop by TC (Tortilla Cafe) to get some lunch, since they have the absolute best black beans and rice I’ve ever eaten. It was so amazingly delicious.
