I went to see Flobots at the Bowery Ballroom on Tuesday night and it was pretty awesome.
My only qualm was the intense political-ness of a couple of their songs. Other than that, I feel like my $22 was well spent. My favorite song was definitely Rise, but I also have a secret love for The Rhythm Method and another song they did (I can’t remember) that was in a crazy time signature. These guys (and lady) are extremely talented.
I guess I owe Adam a couple of hours of niceness (we’re pretty mean to each other… all the time) for finding these tickets on Ebay. We unknowingly decided to buy the tickets after they were already sold out. That’s just our luck, I guess.

I need to check out their full album– I like what i’ve heard so far though.

Actually, I think the “intense political-ness” of their songs is the strongest part of their performance. They actually have something to say beyond “bling bling” and whatever other nonsense these so-called rappers are passing off as art these days. If you dug the show but are concerned about their politics, you might want to check out the video that Johnny 5 did about the importance of voting. It’s non-partisan and well-spoken. Here’s the link if you’re interested.
